Our journey with Lyme Disease started some years ago after one member of the family contracted it. Not long after our daughter started to display symptoms and we were advised by a health professional that it would be a good idea to have her tested as at the time there were growth problems and were told that Lyme Disease can affect growth. Sure enough she tested positive. (Age 7) Where did she get infected? Who knows? We often visited the Thetford Forest area (in the UK) as had family there and visited the forest itself several times. We have visited other forests too and the countryside often. We discovered there are ticks here where we live and have seen them in our garden, so we cannot pin point exactly where. She was treated for 3 months and started to grow in height and weight and other symptoms improved. After a move to be near to family, unfortunately we discovered after putting the heating on that the house we moved into was infested with fleas and she was bitten by them. Not long after, her symptoms returned and she was treated again for 3 months. Approx. 2 years later in the summer of 2016, she had a mild cold, felt off colour and heavy legs which then went onto having pain behind knees and then being unable to stand or walk. Fast forward to Summer 2018 after recommendation to go to BCA Clinic in Germany, she started making slow progress on oral treatment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A year ago we were recommended IV treatment which we had planned for earlier this year (2020) but due to the virus, this was postponed and we finally went in August. Wow, what a difference the IV made. Not long into the IV treatment, this helped with some neurological symptoms and after receiving 2 weeks of IV antibiotics, she started to work with their recommended physio and during the first few sessions with him, she was able to do a supported stand with no more pain behind knees and then so many other wonderful goals followed. To go from being bedbound for 3 years to what she can do now is incredible.<\/p>

Thanks to the BCA Clinic and now Alviasana, our daughter is getting her life back again. She is still on her healing journey with treatment and physio and of course needs to continue building up her muscles and stamina. We are so proud of her achievements and resilience and the fact that she has never once given up. The team in Augsburg are outstanding and passionate in wanting to help all their patients in achieving their goals. They work with an amazing physio too (Ion Cristea). Attached are 2 videos. One was pre Germany over 2 years ago and the other is after receiving some IV treatment this year (2020).<\/p>

Thank you to each and every person who has helped our daughter get to where she is now and who are continuing to help her to achieve her goals. It\u2019s a blessing each day seeing her doing the simplest things in life. There was a time when our daughter couldn’t read or write, hold a pen, used ipad with knuckles as her fingers went inwards (claw like), was mainly bedbound in a dark room for 3 years, unable to feed herself or cut food, debilitating pain, unable to stand or walk, painful scalp, severe light sensitivity and so on. Oral treatment started to show very slow improvement to begin with, IV treatment was without a doubt life changing and then back on to oral treatment which continues to show huge improvements.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Now our daughter can do so much, she can stand, walk, feed herself, relearnt letters and building on reading and writing, goes swimming once a week, gym rehab once a week, attends local youth club to meet with friends, attends lessons in a classroom 3 times a week, started drawing again and where a student would have 2 years to study a GCSE art, the teacher says our daughter has the talent to do the same exam in 6 months. She has goals to go to college in a years time. How incredible is this. There are so many more positives which unfold before our eyes all the time. Without Team Alviasana we wouldn’t be in this position and we will always be grateful to them.
